168th Springfield Fair is Here!

Well. Here we is – rapidly approaching the 168th Springfield Fair. With David Allan Coe now only a pleasant memory, we focus our attention on bringing you the best fair that we can. After each painful, but necessary, deliberation we decided (as you already know) to have two very full days of entertainment.

Without being able to contract a carnival we are focused on offering two great days. There’s a ton of fun things for kids to do and we have added a new element to some of our traditional kid’s events. Parents or guardians will now participate in 6-8 events with the younger folks. Don’t worry, if your parent cannot help (or is afraid of embarrassing themselves) you will be able to accept partnership from an older sibling or family friend. For a list of events check out our flyers in local stores or go online to download one at: www.thespringfieldfair.com. We hope that this adds a fresh and exciting twist and also offers time for families to spend closely together.

To back up a bit, we want to thank the folks who came to our July concert. Although David Allan Coe didn’t really impress us with his historical voice (or top songs), it was great to be able to have such a huge country music icon on our stage one more time. We are already working to book a younger, but popular, performer for July of 2019. We will fill you in as we get approval to do so from Nashville. So keep July 13, 2019 open to spend in Springfield. Hopefully we won’t have any other local events running on the same day.

Something else new in 2018 – for all kids who pay he regular gate fee ($8 for 5-17.Up to 4 years are free (they will receive a $3 coupon when they enter the fairgrounds. It can go towards any of the following: 1) a special “kid’s meal” at the roadside concession, 2) a pony ride, 3) a horse & wagon ride, or 4) a horseback ride. They just need to present it at the time they want to ride or eat. This special coupon will be available on each day of the fair for kids 5-17.

Our exhibition bars will be full of livestock again. The exhibit hall will be bursting with locally made items and we have some great & talented artisans doing continuous exhibitions and demonstrations in the pavilion. Plus, we will be having home baked goodies, once again, available to purchase in the pavilion. Lee Academy will have one of their groups providing great eats for a donation. We have missed the Sweet Tooth Café and look forward to the new version.

In addition to a full slate of kids’ stuff, we will have motorsports events throughout the two days. Saturday will feature our classic & antique car show along with Maine’s best pick up pulls. Sunday will showcase tractor trailer parking, antique tractor pulls and the Demolition Derby.

And for anyone wanting some great belly laughs, we have an incredible hypnotist coming to do three big shows. Michael Blaine has been performing all over the world and really knows his stuff. He will need to work with some “local talent” with anywhere from 15-20 folks being willing to participate. If you know of anyone (maybe even you…) who would be willing to have some fun and allow his/her family to video them for years of holiday viewing – make sure they come to the 2018 Springfield Fair. It’s a guaranteed laugh.

Michael Blaine will be performing both days at the 168th Fair!

We are excited about the changes made to this 168th Springfield Fair. Although, like you, we are sad about not having a carnival, we worked hard to put together two wonderful days of fun and family time. So bring the kids, your parents, the neighbor’s kids, anyone you see hitchhiking or anyone slow enough so they can’t escape from you – to the fayuh.
