Planned Improvements for 2010
|
| 1. NEW FENCE- We have replaced all perimeter fencing at the fairgrounds over the years, except for a 1200+ section of old fence (75 + years old) in the northeast corner of the grounds. In 2010 we will haul all of the old fence away, spread gravel and put up a new fence with posts.
2. WALK-IN GATE - We will be building a new walk-ins only gate at the north end of the grounds along the Coffin Road (or Osgood Road or Scott Road - whatever it is being called now). This new gate will accomodate the general public parking to be located in our new 25+ acre field. The field is "kitty corner" to the fairgrounds. (See illustration) |

| Senior citizen and handicap parking will still be inside the fairgrounds. All vendors, workers and exhibitors will be inside also. All general public parking will now be located in the new field. This is intended to give us more room to expand events, carnival area and entertainment. We will have plenty of signs up to show everyone where to go. If you have questions, e-mail Kirk.
3. The last two sections of grandstand seating will be replaced. The only remaining work will be new cedar shingles and lots of red stain - a 15-year project! 4. We will provide seating for parents and other folk in the midway area. 5. We hope to begin construction of our all new 4-H area (depending on available funds). We are still in the planning stages. 6. In the next year or two, we will build one more 40' livestock barn located off the end of the poultry/shavings barn. 7. Within the next few years, we anticipate building a brand new museum and turning the current museum into a small animal barn. We could then turn the current small animal barn (20' x 60') into a 12-stall livestock barn. 8. We will build a bandstand and have it placed near the new 4-H area. This will offer a place for local talent to perform and entertain whether it be musically or storytime-type activities. 10. We hope to move the car show, on Sunday, out into the "old parking area" to allow for more show space, less dust and a longer show. Additionally, we may be moving the farmer Olympics out into the field where we used to have the general parking lot. As you can see, we continue to be ambitious with our planning and capital improvements. We want to make sure that the Springfield Fair remains a source of local pride. We work hard to expand the entertainment portions of the fair, and also to make the facility and event more "user friendly". We always welcome comments from the public. Believe it or not, suggestions and criticisms from our regulars have had a big impact on how and when we make changes and improvements. For instance, we have added picnic tables every year to offer additional seating. The benches that we hope to have in the midway this year are coming as a direct result of your feedback. Saving the grandstand is something that we know is very important. Adding more food vendors, a pig scramble and more midway rides are all areas where we are trying to improve and areas which we regularly receive comments on. We are "fired up" for the 2010 fair - we hope you are also. Thank you for your support and patronage. |
